You are changing car insurers and your new contract is blocked due to a lack of information statement. This situation is common, but it can delay a subscription by several weeks if the request is poorly formulated or sent through the wrong channel. At Direct Assurance, the procedure has evolved in recent years with the digitization of documents. Here’s how to obtain this statement quickly and smoothly.
Direct Assurance Information Statement: What the Client Area Changes Practically
The trend among major online insurers, including Direct Assurance, is to make the information statement downloadable directly from the web client area or mobile app. You are no longer required to send a registered letter and wait for a paper response.
In practice, you log into your personal space on the Direct Assurance website, access the documents or car insurance section, and generate the statement in PDF format. Downloading from the client area takes a few minutes, compared to several days by mail.
If you no longer have access to your client area (old contract canceled, lost credentials), the process requires direct contact with customer service. You can then reach out via email or phone. To properly frame the procedure before you start, you can request a Direct Assurance information statement by following the steps tailored to each situation.
Legal Deadline and Recourse if Direct Assurance Does Not Respond

The annex to Article A121-1 of the Insurance Code sets a maximum deadline of 15 calendar days after the request for the insurer to provide the information statement. This deadline applies whether the request is made in writing or by phone.
Direct Assurance, like any insurer, is bound by this obligation. In case of exceeding this deadline, two options exist.
- Send a formal notice by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, explicitly reminding them of Article A121-1 of the Insurance Code and the 15-day deadline
- Contact the insurance mediator if the formal notice remains ineffective after a reasonable period
- Report the failure to the ACPR (Prudential Control and Resolution Authority), which oversees insurers’ practices
Responses vary on this point: some insured individuals receive their document within a few days, while others have to follow up multiple times. Keeping a written record of each request (email, screenshot of the form) protects you in case of a dispute.
Content of the Car Information Statement and Points to Check
The information statement is not just a simple summary. It is the document on which your future insurer will rely to calculate your premium. An undetected error can be costly for years.
Elements Included in the Document
The statement mentions the identity of the policyholder, the designated drivers on the contract, the insured vehicle (make, model, registration) and, most importantly, the claims history. It also includes the bonus-malus coefficient (CRM) applied at the date of issuance.
The covered period generally spans the last two years of insurance. If you changed insurers during this period, you must request a statement from each of your previous insurers. Direct Assurance only covers the period during which you were insured with them.
Common Errors to Spot Before Submission
Three things should be checked first: the bonus-malus coefficient (a single incorrect decimal changes the premium), the number and nature of reported claims, and the start and end dates of the contract. A claim mistakenly attributed to the main driver instead of the secondary driver can skew the CRM calculation for both profiles.
If any information is inaccurate, contact Direct Assurance in writing to request a correction. The insurer is required to correct the document and issue an updated version.

Information Statement and Car Insurance Change After the Removal of the Green Card
Since April 1, 2024, the green card and insurance sticker have been removed in France. This reform has a direct consequence on the procedures for changing insurers: the information statement becomes the main proof of history submitted to the new insurer.
Before this date, the green card also served as proof of recent insurance. Today, it is the Insured Vehicles File (FVA) that centralizes this verification for law enforcement. For the new insurer, however, the information statement remains the document that documents your driving history, your claims, and your bonus-malus.
Another evolution to note: since July 24, 2025, the information statement will be replaced by the European Claims Statement, a standardized format valid in all European countries. The content remains similar, but the document is now recognized beyond French borders, simplifying procedures for drivers who insure themselves in another EU country.
Requesting Your Direct Assurance Information Statement by Mail or Email
If the client area is not accessible, requesting via email or mail remains the traditional route. You write a message specifying the contract number, the name of the policyholder, the vehicle registration, and the relevant period.
- By email: use the contact address indicated on the Direct Assurance website or the online help area form
- By mail: send the request to the headquarters of Direct Assurance by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, explicitly mentioning the request for the information statement
- By phone: call customer service and request the document to be sent by email or mail, then confirm in writing
In all cases, keeping proof of the sending date allows you to assert the legal 15-day deadline if the response is delayed.
The information statement is a right, not a favor. Whether you are leaving Direct Assurance or subscribing to a new contract, this document conditions the calculation of your premium. It is better to request it before you need it, rather than blocking a subscription on the day when time is of the essence.
